Special election in Piqua to address Meta data center and council recalls
Piqua voters will decide whether to regulate the size of a proposed Meta data center and whether to recall three city commissioners, including Mayor Jim Vetter, in a Nov. 3 special election. The ballot measures followed a petition drive by Save Piqua, amid debate over job creation and potential environmental impacts.
Piqua voters are scheduled to vote Nov. 3 on an initiative regulating the size of Meta’s proposed data center and recall petitions targeting three city commissioners, including Mayor Jim Vetter. The measures were placed on the ballot after Save Piqua gathered the required signatures.
City officials have promoted the project’s economic benefits, saying construction of the facility would create jobs, including 100 full-time positions. Opponents, including Save Piqua member Kimbe Lange, cited possible environmental effects and urged residents to research the proposal before voting, while other residents said they were not concerned about the facility.
