Louisville holds 2nd public hearing on proposed data center regulations

Louisville Metro recently hosted a second public meeting to discuss proposed regulations concerning data center development. The Office of Planning and Zoning has recommended several changes, including restricting large-scale data centers to industrial zones only and expanding the list of sensitive use areas to prevent them from being built near locations like nursing homes and schools.
In a related development, the office approved a 180-day moratorium on new hyperscale data centers, which is now awaiting final consideration and a vote by the Louisville Metro Council. The vote on this moratorium is scheduled for Thursday, August 13th.
The meeting saw dozens of residents express frustration over the proposed regulations and the overall impact of data centers. One unnamed citizen commented that numerous well-intentioned suggestions from thousands of concerned citizens and reputable sources have been largely ignored in the latest revisions.
