Big tech projects in Louisiana, notably Meta's $50 billion data center, are operating under non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) that restrict what workers and government officials can share publicly. This practice originated with efforts to expedite permits for such developments.
Drew Hawkins, Senior Reporter for Gulf States Newsroom, highlighted that the use of NDAs has now extended to various parts of the state government, even involving temporary staff, a practice he notes is not standard. Specifically, 121 state employees and Governor Landry himself have signed strict confidentiality agreements with the office of the governor and Meta.
This situation has sparked concerns regarding government transparency, especially given that other states have implemented measures to limit or outright ban NDAs in government operations.
