PPL ranked among top utilities for economic development

PPL Electric Utilities has received national recognition from Site Selection magazine as one of the top utilities for economic development, lauded for its continued investments and job creation in eastern and central Pennsylvania. In the past year, PPL Electric supported 20 diverse projects, contributing to over $12.8 billion in capital investment and creating 1,775 new jobs.

Christine Martin, president of PPL Electric Utilities, emphasized the company's commitment to providing reliable electric service, planning for future energy needs, and collaborating with businesses and local partners to foster economic growth. A significant achievement noted was the connection of Amazon Web Services' operational data center campus in Salem Township, Luzerne County, which marked PPL Electric's first hyperscale data center customer on its transmission system. John Augustine III, president and CEO of Penn's Northeast, a regional economic development agency, praised PPL's investment in upgrades and efforts to add power to the grid, which he believes is crucial for attracting companies like Amazon seeking robust infrastructure and reliability. He highlighted Amazon's ongoing construction and operation of data center buildings in Salem Township, with plans for more. Augustine also stated that this recognition affirms northeastern Pennsylvania, particularly Lackawanna County, as an excellent business location.
