Loudoun County, Virginia, recognized as the nation's largest data center market, is facing growing concerns about the impact of data center development on local resources. Mike Turner, a member of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, emphasized the urgent need for communities to define clear expectations and address critical issues before approving new facilities.
Turner highlighted six key areas for resolution: noise, power, water, emissions, setbacks, and visual appearance. He pointed out that a four-year gap between the county's land use plan and its zoning ordinance allowed data centers to proliferate without sufficient local oversight, indicating a need for stricter alignment and enforcement of regulations.
