First draft of zoning ordinances submitted
County commissioners in Girard, Kansas, met to review the first draft of new zoning ordinances as part of a 20-year comprehensive plan for the county. Commissioners will vote on each article of the proposed ordinances during their July 10 meeting. The new regulations will determine how projects, including data centers, are regulated in the county.
The Crawford County Commissioners, including Bruce Blair and Tom Moody, met with adviser Josh Albins via Zoom to review the initial draft of new zoning ordinances. This marks the first phase in developing a new 20-year comprehensive plan for the county.
Albins detailed the process for adopting the ordinances, explaining that each article will be considered individually. Commissioners will have three weeks to review the proposals and formulate questions and suggestions. A formal vote is scheduled for the July 10 meeting, where commissioners will decide whether to accept each article, reject it, or recommend revisions to the planning and zoning board.
The current draft does not predetermine countywide zoning, leaving that decision to the commissioners following the adoption of the proposed regulations. Commissioner Blair inquired about the lack of regulation for projects like solar, wind, or data centers in unzoned areas, highlighting the significance of the proposed changes for future development.
