Van Buren Township residents raise dust, noise concerns ahead of data center vote
Residents near Google's proposed data center in Van Buren Township are raising concerns about construction noise, dust, and potential health and neighborhood impacts. The township Planning Commission is expected to vote on the project's final site plan, while officials say they are working with residents and the developer to address concerns.
Residents living near Google's proposed data center in Van Buren Township, Michigan, say ongoing construction has created excessive noise and dust and that their concerns were not adequately considered. Max Schroeder and Ashley Shukait were among those who criticized the project's effects on the neighborhood and the planning process.
Construction contractor ITC said it is working with the township to address complaints. Township Supervisor Kevin McNamara said officials have balanced residents' concerns with legal requirements and have sought measures involving water protection, wildlife corridors, sound suppression and continuous monitoring. The township Planning Commission is expected to consider final approval of the site's plans at an upcoming meeting.
