The Sartell City Council will convene on Monday, April 13, to deliberate on several significant ordinances, including proposed regulations for data centers. The meeting is scheduled to include a public comment period, providing residents an opportunity to share their perspectives on the potential frameworks for managing data center facilities within the city. This discussion aligns with ongoing efforts in Central Minnesota, where some cities like St. Joseph have already begun drafting data center rules, while others continue to evaluate their approach.
In addition to data centers, the council's agenda includes establishing a regulatory framework for cannabis licenses, which proposes a 1,000-foot buffer from schools, a 500-foot buffer from daycares, treatment facilities, and public parks, and aims to limit the number of licenses to four. A proposed ordinance to permit bow hunting on properties of five acres or more, specifically targeting deer and turkey, will also be reviewed, following a community survey where 70% of polled residents supported regulated bow hunting within city limits.
Further items for consideration include ordinances related to lift assists and water and sewer services. City staff are also awaiting legislative action from the state before proposing local ordinances on virtual currency kiosks, responding to documented fraud and scams. The meeting will also feature a presentation on the Mill District Plan recommendation and listing.
