Residents of Munford, Alabama, in Talladega County, convened at the Munford Recreation Gym to voice strong opposition against a proposed hyperscale data center. The meeting drew a near-capacity crowd of concerned citizens, landowners, and elected officials.
Talladega County Commissioner Darrell Ingram, whose district encompasses the Munford area, publicly stated at the town hall that he would not support any tax incentives for the data center. Leslie Wright, a local resident and retired science teacher, articulated several environmental and cultural concerns, including potential impacts on local water and power supplies, a threat to a unique endangered snail species, and the possible encroachment on a historic cemetery containing graves of enslaved people.
The proposed development is slated for an area near Cheaha Creek and Curry Station Road.
