A Dowagiac, Michigan, resident told Vice President JD Vance that constant noise from a data center across the street has made outdoor activities and opening the family’s windows nearly impossible. She said she is a plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit seeking to address the nuisance, while Vance said data centers must protect communities, prevent higher electricity costs and share their economic benefits.

Lindy Valenzuela, a Dowagiac, Michigan, resident, confronted Vice President JD Vance during a CBS News town hall about the effects of a nearby data center. She said continuous operational noise has made her yard unusable, disturbed her two young children and prevented the family from opening its windows, even when the data center’s buzzing continued through closed windows.

Valenzuela said she is a plaintiff in a class-action lawsuit over the alleged nuisance. Vance acknowledged that data centers can create serious local problems while also providing economic and technological benefits. He cited the Trump administration’s ratepayer protection pledge, arguing that facilities should act as responsible community members, avoid excessive noise, help protect residents from higher power bills and return some benefits to local communities.
