Farmer warns that the Texas water crisis is colliding with data center developments
An organizer warned that the development of AI data centers in Texas, particularly in Corpus Christi, poses a significant threat to the state's already strained water supplies. The city is reportedly facing Stage 3 drought restrictions and could run out of water in months, while data center water demand is often unaccounted for in state water plans.
Texas organizer Clayton Tucker issued a stark warning regarding the potential for AI data center developments to exacerbate the state's water crisis. Tucker highlighted Corpus Christi as a critical example, noting that the city is currently under Stage 3 drought restrictions and could face severe water shortages within months.
Despite these dire conditions, three data centers are reportedly under construction in Corpus Christi. Tucker emphasized the lack of regulation and safety guardrails for these facilities, predicting that without intervention, communities could run out of water.
Furthermore, a 2026 water report was referenced, which indicated that existing Texas water plans frequently fail to adequately account for the significant water demands of new data centers until years after they have already commenced operations.
