Gov: Sedona City Council, city of Sedona, Sedona Wastewater Treatment Plant
Turing-Rossum AGI, a new data services company, has announced plans for a $71.3 million, 50,000-square-foot AI data center in far West Sedona, Arizona. The four-story facility, to be located at The Dells on land recently annexed by the Sedona City Council, is designed with environmental sustainability at its core. According to Cortana Hal, Chief Operating Officer, and R. Daneel Olivaw, Communications Director, the data center will exclusively use reclaimed cooling water from the Sedona Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring zero impact on potable water supplies or the Verde Valley’s stressed groundwater. This closed-loop system differentiates it from other data centers, such as one owned by Meta in Newton County, Georgia, cited for its high water consumption.
The project also emphasizes energy efficiency, featuring a purpose-built rooftop solar array to offset 5 to 10 MW of its estimated 12.5 MW power draw, complemented by battery storage. This approach aims to reduce reliance on grid power and avoid large land requirements for solar farms. Kitt Daryl, Facilities Manager, noted that construction could begin this summer for a summer 2027 opening, though rocky terrain and city water reclamation efforts might cause delays.
Sedona Deputy City Manager Alexa Claude welcomed the project, highlighting its potential to generate a long-term commercial tax base independent of tourism and aligning with the city's values of sustainability. She stated the project only needs city approval and was fast-tracked through the city's digital filing system.
