A public meeting was held in Chillicothe, Ohio, to discuss a proposed data center and circuit board manufacturing facility at the former US Paper Mill site. The meeting involved residents, city leaders, and Alignment Engine, a Canton-based company that has entered a lease agreement with US Paper Mill LLC for the redevelopment.
The discussion follows the Chillicothe City Council's decision in late August to pass a 60-day data center moratorium. Council member Dan DeMint stated that while the moratorium is in effect, no physical work or permits can be issued, providing the city time to evaluate the project's alternatives, potential for future sales, and realistic job creation. Mike Throne, president and CEO of the Chillicothe Ross Chamber of Commerce, confirmed the chamber's support for the site's development but noted they haven't taken a stance on the data center itself.
Resident opinions were mixed. Dale Clay, who lives near the site, expressed approval, citing potential job creation for the county and city, provided the company covers its utility costs without impacting neighbors. In contrast, Alison Shoemaker voiced opposition, concerned about increased costs for water and electricity due to the data center's presence. The meeting was scheduled for 6 o'clock at Chillicothe High School.
