Pittsburg Mayor Issues Statement on Proposed Moratorium on Data Center Development
Pittsburg City Council is scheduled to consider a 45-day emergency moratorium on future data center development, including Phases II and III of the AVAIO project. Mayor Dionne Adams said the pause would give the city time to address residents’ concerns and complete recommendations from a community advisory council.
Pittsburg Mayor Dionne Adams said the City Council will consider a 45-day emergency moratorium on future data center development on Oct. 26. The proposed pause would include Phases II and III of the AVAIO project and follows months of residents raising questions and concerns about the effects of data centers on local neighborhoods and families.
Adams said she has recused herself from recent project-related decisions because of her employer’s involvement, but has directed city staff to expand public outreach and provide updates. A city advisory council is developing recommendations for future data center policies, and the proposed moratorium would give the council time to complete that work.
