North Nashville residents, led by Claudia Wright, are raising concerns about a large data center being constructed by RadiusDC on Brick Church Pike, near Richard Dinkens Middle School. Wright highlights a lack of community awareness regarding the facility, which spans over 100,000 square feet and broke ground last September. Neighbors express frustration, feeling their voices are unheard due to the significant financial investment involved in the project.
The primary concerns revolve around the environmental impact, water consumption, potential noise pollution, and the data center's close proximity to a school. Wright questions the existing infrastructure's capacity to handle increased water and sewage demands, especially given past environmental issues in North Nashville, such as a harmful landfill. RadiusDC states its facility uses energy-efficient cooling with minimal water requirements.
Community members also note that the Metro Council and Metro government are reportedly behind in establishing clear rules, regulations, and guidelines for data center developments. Despite this, Wright is grateful for their efforts to create new stipulations. She hopes RadiusDC will voluntarily commit to adhering to these forthcoming guidelines as a "good neighbor."
