Northern Colorado county considers data center regulations, requests community feedback
Larimer County is seeking public feedback on draft land-use regulations for future data centers in unincorporated areas. The proposed rules would cap power use, prohibit evaporative cooling and exclude hyperscale facilities, while the county’s moratorium on new data centers remains in effect until February 2027.
Larimer County officials are accepting community input on a draft Land Use Code intended to establish enforceable requirements for future data centers in unincorporated parts of the Colorado county. The proposal would cap power consumption, prohibit evaporative cooling and prevent hyperscale data centers from locating in unincorporated Larimer County.
The county said the draft responds to concerns about water use, electricity demand, air quality and other impacts. Larimer County has not received any data center applications and has maintained a moratorium on new facilities through February 2027, while other Colorado communities consider similar restrictions.
