The resident, identified as an Upatoi woman and also referred to as Moyer, emphasized that a 12-month pause would give citizens peace of mind that commissioners are not being rushed or unduly influenced by big corporations and developers. She also highlighted the need for more public meetings and reactions, noting a general distrust of government regarding such developments. She has initiated a petition through the "Keep It Rural Harris County" effort, which has gathered nearly 150 signatures within a week, pressuring local leaders for greater transparency.
The call for a moratorium comes as Harris County commissioners are working to update their comprehensive plans, specifically the Future Land Use Language, marking the first major revision since 2024. Moyer also pointed out that other Georgia counties have already implemented similar short-term bans while they develop new regulations. However, the Harris County Commissioners did not respond to her comments nor take any action on the proposed moratorium at the meeting.
