A nationwide poll found that most respondents initially oppose data center construction in their state, but support increases when companies pledge to cover electricity costs and reduce environmental impacts. The survey also found concerns that moratoriums could weaken U.S. infrastructure competitiveness and shift jobs and investment to other states.

A poll conducted by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research for the American Infrastructure Alliance found that 58% of respondents nationwide oppose building data centers in their state. Support rose to 54% when respondents were told that companies would pay related electricity costs, protect consumers from higher utility bills and safeguard environmental resources.

The survey also found that 70% of voters worry moratoriums on AI data centers could give China greater control over infrastructure hosting U.S. information. Another 64% said they feared bans could send jobs, investment and economic growth to other states. The article cites New York as an example of a state with a data center moratorium debate but does not report a specific project or government action.
