Plans for southeast Raleigh data center withdrawn
Plans for a data center in southeast Raleigh have been withdrawn by developer Beacon Partners, confirmed by Mayor Janet Cal. The withdrawal came ahead of a public hearing where many residents were expected to speak in opposition to the project. The proposed data center was to be located on a 13-acre parcel already zoned for industrial mixed use.
Raleigh Mayor Janet Cal confirmed that Beacon Partners, the developer behind a proposed data center in southeast Raleigh, has withdrawn their plans. The site in question was a 13-acre parcel off Jones Sausage Road, already zoned for industrial mixed-use, where a 100,000 square-foot data center was envisioned.
The withdrawal came shortly before a scheduled public hearing at the City Council meeting, where an annexation of the land was to be discussed. City representatives indicated that 100 people had signed up to speak at the meeting, with most expressing opposition to the project. The city had even capped the number of speakers at 30 due to time constraints.
While the current proposal has been withdrawn, it was noted that the developer retains the option to attempt to annex the land at a later date. This development follows a period of significant public concern and organized opposition regarding the data center project.
