The group "Stop Olyphant Data Centers," led by co-organizer Eva Rappenglueck, initiated the event due to concerns about a lack of information and public input from local officials. Residents expressed frustration over feeling unheard and are now escalating their actions against the development.
The primary concerns revolve around the environmental impact, including ongoing tree clearing, and potential long-term effects on surrounding communities. Jessup resident Emily Van Fleet highlighted the personal toll, noting her children's distress over tree removal. Attendees also raised fears about possible electrical and water rations, as well as health concerns like increased cancer rates, citing experiences in other towns.
