Approximately 100 residents attended a two-hour rally outside the Jefferson County Courthouse in Madison to demand a moratorium on data centers in Jefferson County. Janice Kleopfer, an organizer of the local campaign, said development could cause environmental degradation and pollution and urged officials to halt approvals before additional projects are approved.

Elijah Chandler, an independent candidate for County Council District 3, said the event drew Republicans, Democrats and independents and that a pause would allow the county to revise its Unified Development Ordinance. Democratic State Senate candidate Byron Holland also called for stronger protections for farmland, water resources and rural communities. The rally did not result in an enacted moratorium.
