Aurora Mayor Coffman seeks to halt Trident data center project after public backlash
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman is seeking to stop the proposed Trident data center after strong community backlash over the project’s approval process and potential health and environmental impacts. Coffman plans to bring the project before the City Council and urge members to reject it, despite possible litigation from the developer.
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said he will ask the Aurora City Council to reject the proposed Trident data center after residents objected to the project and said they were blindsided by it. Community concerns include potential health and environmental effects, as well as the proximity of the proposed facility to several new housing developments.
Coffman said he intends to bring the project up for a council vote and characterized the development as one that "must not go forward." He acknowledged that rejecting the project could expose the city to litigation from the developer.
