The Flint City Council, during its June 8, 2026 meeting, voted 7-1 to impose a temporary 12-month moratorium on data center development within the city. Fourth Ward Councilwoman Judy Priestley cast the lone dissenting vote. During this period, no permit applications for data centers will be accepted, with specific restrictions placed on site plan reviews, construction blueprints, and installations intended for data center operations.

Council President Candice Mushatt successfully amended the resolution to include a call for an independent investigation into the potential drawbacks and benefits of data center development, to be conducted while the moratorium is in effect.
