Meta is currently building a multi-billion dollar data center, known as Project Hyperion, in rural Richland Parish, Louisiana. The massive 4-million-square-foot, multi-campus facility is being constructed on what was formerly farmland in the unincorporated community of Holly Ridge, situated between the towns of Rayville and Delhi. The project spans an estimated 300 to 500 acres, a scale described as more than three times the size of all four Disney World parks combined.
Delhi Mayor Jesse Washington acknowledged residents' concerns regarding the potential water and electricity usage, stating that his administration is working closely with project engineers. He expressed hope that residents would view the project through a positive lens, citing no previous letdowns and anticipating gains for the community. Initially skeptical, Angie Hogan, owner of Holly Ridge Nutrition, noted the suddenness of the project's groundbreaking. However, she indicated that the local Chamber of Commerce has maintained transparency, keeping residents informed, leading to a more positive outlook among some who are now thankful for the development and look forward to its future impact on the community.
Tim Allen, owner of Holy Taco's in Rayville, shared a mixed perspective, highlighting both positives and negatives. He specifically pointed to the significant economic growth in the area, noting that many people are benefiting financially from selling property or renting to workers involved in the project, leading to substantial income generation in Richland Parish.
