The Salix City Council discussed a proposed memorandum of understanding with Google regarding the company's plans to develop a data center on approximately 900 acres annexed into the city. Under the proposed agreement, Google would reimburse the city for independent experts and advisors studying the project's impacts, up to $150,000, with the potential for the term and reimbursement amount to be extended.

City attorney Nathan Overberg and Google representative Trent Fellers told council members that existing lawsuits would not affect the agreement and that Salix would not owe Google a refund if it ended the arrangement early. Mayor Kevin Nelson said the council was not rushing to approve the project and wanted to complete its due diligence and ensure local ordinances were in place. The council is scheduled to vote on the MOU and clarify the status of any data center moratorium on Oct. 14; Google also plans to provide a project update and potentially arrange a tour of its data center in Papillion, Nebraska.
