Nehawka, Nebraska, Enacts Permanent Ban on Data Centers
Nehawka became the first known village in Nebraska to permanently ban data centers. The ban was included in a broader Nebraska news update covering Medicaid requirements, law enforcement cameras, a Lancaster County audit, tourism and flood damage.
Nehawka recently adopted what Nebraska Public Media described as the state’s first known permanent, all-out ban on data centers. The brief report did not identify a specific developer or data center project affected by the prohibition.
The item appeared in a statewide news roundup that also covered concerns over Flock Safety license-plate cameras, the effects of new Medicaid work requirements, an audit involving the Lancaster County treasurer, Omaha tourism revenue and an emergency declaration signed by Gov. Jim Pillen after historic rainfall and flooding in southeast Nebraska.
