Data center debate impacts Pennsylvania House race | FOX 10 Phoenix

Republicans hold a narrow lead in the House of Representatives as three Republican-held seats in Pennsylvania are considered toss-ups, according to FOX News Power Rankings. Data center development has become a central issue in District 8 in the northeastern part of the state, where residents express concerns over air pollution, noise pollution, and groundwater depletion. A FOX News poll shows 71% of registered voters oppose building data centers in their local area. Both incumbent Republican Congressman Rob Bresnahan and Democratic nominee Paige Cognetti claim to oppose data centers in their constituents' backyards while accusing each other of not doing enough to stop them. Cognetti accuses Bresnahan of opening the door to Big Tech by celebrating Blackstone's $25 billion investment and voting for a 10-year moratorium on state regulation of artificial intelligence and data centers. Bresnahan disputes Cognetti's claims, pointing to his proposed legislation that aims to give local communities more control over data center development. Neither candidate is calling for an outright ban, but both maintain that local communities should have a say in where facilities are built and how residents are protected. Voters in seven other states will also consider ballot measures this November that could restrict data center development.
