The Yorkville City Council has approved an amendment to its electric utility tax code, correcting a previous error in its codification. City Administrator Bart Olson stated that the updated rate for the highest tier of electricity consumption, which applies to usage above 20 million kilowatt-hours, is now 28.5 cents per kilowatt-hour. Olson noted that the city currently does not have any users in this high-consumption bracket. The amendment is part of the city's strategy to generate revenue, particularly from the electricity use of future data centers through municipal taxes. According to city memos, staff had been in communication with ComEd to clarify and align the tax rate with the city's ordinance.
