Water usage is specifically highlighted as a major concern for communities. Furthermore, Governor Basher has ordered the Public Service Commission to prohibit utility companies from increasing rates to recover costs associated with data center development or operation, ensuring that residents do not bear these expenses.
Over 30 communities in Kentucky have already taken action by voting to implement moratoriums on data center construction. The Governor emphasized that while the statewide order sets protective guidelines, decisions regarding the opening of data centers will ultimately remain with local communities.
