Walla Walla County publishes residents' comments on Amazon data center
Walla Walla County published more than 700 public comments on Amazon’s proposed data center campus at Wallula Gap Business Park. The project remains under environmental review, while residents and the Walla Walla Anti-Data Center League are calling for a one-year moratorium that county commissioners oppose.
Walla Walla County published more than 700 comments submitted during the public comment period for Amazon’s proposed data center campus at Wallula Gap Business Park. The county is working with Facet on a State Environmental Policy Act review and will issue a threshold determination after evaluating potential environmental impacts and any needed mitigation.
Amazon purchased 554 acres from the Port of Walla Walla and plans to develop a five-building campus, including three data centers, on 134 acres between Dodd Road and Worden Road near the Columbia River. A second comment period will follow the environmental determination before the county makes a final decision on the application.
Residents and the Walla Walla Anti-Data Center League are seeking a one-year moratorium on data center development to allow more time to assess potential environmental and social effects. Walla Walla County commissioners have said they do not support pausing the Amazon project.
