First of three data center public meetings in Louisville takes place tonight

Mayor Craig Greenberg has publicly endorsed the six-month moratorium, a measure that would temporarily halt new data center projects across Metro Louisville. This support came shortly before the Metro Council's planning and zoning committee advanced an ordinance to implement this pause. The goal is to allow the city sufficient time to establish permanent regulations that would protect utility customers, enhance neighborhood and environmental safeguards, increase transparency, and ensure prevailing wages during construction. Stricter updates to these proposed regulations have already been announced following extensive public comments.
Council member Shamika Parish-Wright, however, has questioned the timing of Mayor Greenberg's report and his sudden position on the moratorium. She noted that the ordinance had been "languishing in committee" for months and was only brought back to the table after her intervention. Louisville is now poised to join other Kentucky cities like Lexington, which approved a five-month moratorium, and London, which passed a two-year ban, in pausing data center development. The full Metro Council could vote on Louisville's proposed moratorium as early as August 13th.
