Habersham County officials have released updates to their proposed Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and are encouraging residents to review the document and provide feedback before it is put to a vote by the Board of Commissioners. The county has already incorporated some community feedback, notably removing a derelict vehicle ordinance from the proposal.
A significant aspect of the updated UDO pertains to data center developments. While the county cannot legally ban data centers outright, the proposed ordinance aims to impose restrictions. All data center proposals would necessitate a Special Use Permit, requiring approval from both the Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners. County officials are also evaluating additional requirements, including minimum standards and other safeguards for these facilities.
Officials stress the importance of public input in this ongoing process. To facilitate further engagement, Habersham County will host a public town hall meeting on April 13 at 6:00 PM at the Ruby Fulbright Aquatic Center. The meeting will provide an opportunity for officials to present the latest updates and for attendees to voice concerns, ask questions, and offer feedback on the proposed ordinance.
