Cromwell residents voiced strong opposition at a packed Town Hall meeting to a proposed data center on Geer Street near Cromwell Middle School. Residents said the project could alter the character of the town, create long-term costs, and pose concerns because of its proximity to the school.

The potential developer said the project would provide Cromwell with an $8 million annual fee and could offer free energy through a state program. The developer also said the design had been revised several times to address land-preservation and school-proximity concerns, but many residents remained opposed.

Cromwell's Planning and Zoning Commission is considering a six-month moratorium on data center development, along with zoning text amendments that would restrict data centers. The commission is scheduled to discuss those measures again on December 3; no formal application for the proposed project has been submitted.
