Dalton Council Authorizes Improvements At Al Rollins Park
Dalton resident Carmen Shuler again urged the city council to impose a moratorium on new data center development while the city develops regulations for the industry. The council took no action on the request, and officials said they were unaware of any new data center projects planned within Dalton, although a large development is proceeding in Whitfield County.
Dalton resident Carmen Shuler used the public comment period at a Dalton Mayor and Council meeting to renew concerns about data center development in Dalton and Whitfield County. She advocated for a moratorium on new data centers in Dalton to give the city time to develop an ordinance governing the businesses.
City officials said Dalton has no knowledge of additional data center projects planned or under consideration within its limits. The city’s first data center has operated since 2018, while a large development is proceeding elsewhere in Whitfield County. The council did not take further action on the moratorium request during the meeting.
