An Indianapolis City-County Council committee has given a "do-pass" recommendation to a proposal for a temporary moratorium on new data center developments. This measure, replacing original regulations in Proposal 238, seeks to halt new data center approvals until December 31, 2027, or until new regulations are established sooner.

Council President Maggie Lewis stated that the moratorium's purpose is to provide the city with time to research data centers and solicit feedback from residents. She clarified that the pause would only affect new data center proposals and would not impact projects already underway. The Mayor of Indianapolis has voiced support for the proposed moratorium, emphasizing the importance of continued conversation and engagement with neighbors, experts, and stakeholders on this critical issue.
