Property values in Madison County, Mississippi, have seen a significant increase, largely attributed to the presence of an Amazon data center. According to Tax Assessor Norman Kennedy, the total assessed value of the county's tax rolls has risen by over 53%, amounting to more than $1 billion. This assessed value is a key factor in determining property taxes for owners.

County Administrator Greg Higginbotham addressed the Board of Supervisors, clarifying that an increase in assessed value does not automatically translate to higher property tax bills for residents. He indicated that the Board could take actions to mitigate the impact of these increased property values, suggesting that property taxes do not "instantly" have to go up. Supervisors are reportedly hoping that the increase in property tax revenue generated from the data center itself will help offset the burden on other property owners.
