State Rep. Rex Reynolds (R-Huntsville) expressed skepticism regarding a potential statewide moratorium on data centers in Alabama. He argued that while data centers can strain power grids, many communities could benefit from their job growth and tax revenue. Reynolds believes decisions about data centers should be made at the local level rather than through a blanket statewide ban.

During an appearance on WVNN's "The Yaffee Program," State Rep. Rex Reynolds (R-Huntsville), who chairs the House General Fund Budget Committee, voiced his opposition to a proposed statewide moratorium on data centers in Alabama.

Reynolds acknowledged that data centers, particularly two major facilities in North Alabama, place a "huge strain" on the available power grid, which is supplied by TVA. However, he argued that a blanket statewide ban would be detrimental, as many areas of Alabama could greatly benefit from the jobs and tax revenue that data centers bring, acting as a crucial economic stimulus.

He emphasized that individual communities are best suited to decide whether a data center project aligns with their local economic development goals and existing infrastructure. Reynolds believes such decisions should be localized, allowing each geographic area to determine what best fits its needs rather than imposing a uniform state-level policy.
