Texas data center pause isn't stopping construction of facilities, including one just outside San Antonio
Construction of CyrusOne’s SAT14A data center near Castroville is moving forward despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s pause on certain air permits for Texas data centers. The pause affects pending air and water permits, including permits for backup generators, but does not stop construction registrations already filed with the state.
Construction is proceeding on CyrusOne’s 460,000-square-foot SAT14A data center near Castroville in Medina County, despite Gov. Greg Abbott’s pause on certain permits for large computing facilities. The project, located on U.S. Highway 90, registered with the state on July 16 and is being built in an unincorporated area outside San Antonio’s jurisdiction.
Cody Swift, founder of Colocation Scout, said Abbott’s pause applies to air and water permits still awaiting approval, including permits for backup generators, but does not affect construction registrations such as CyrusOne’s. As a result, the facility can continue as planned. Any future San Antonio data center moratorium would not apply to SAT14A because the project is outside the city limits.
