Tulsa city councilors are considering a moratorium on new hyperscale data center projects. The proposed moratorium aims to proactively address data center issues in a balanced way, exempting the first two phases of the Project Anthem data center already in the pipeline.

Tulsa City Councilor Laura Bellis has sponsored a proposal for a moratorium on new hyperscale data center projects. During a committee meeting, Bellis presented the proposal to her colleagues, suggesting that Tulsa could set a proactive and balanced model for handling data center development issues, contrasting it with challenges faced by other communities nationwide.
The proposed moratorium would specifically exempt phases one and two of Project Anthem, which is currently the only large-scale data center project slated for development within Tulsa city limits. This exemption indicates an attempt to allow existing, planned projects to proceed while pausing future developments to assess and refine policies.
