Air Products has abandoned its proposal to construct three data center structures at its former 194-acre headquarters on Cetronia Road in Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania. The decision follows the Upper Macungie Township Zoning Hearing Board's rejection of the plan on July 6, which came after a public hearing in May where the proposal was denied due to significant community opposition.
The company announced on Tuesday that it would not appeal the board's formal written decision, which cited the project's failure to meet several zoning standards, including proving similarity in impacts and character to permitted uses and compliance with environmental protection requirements. Air Products stated its commitment to "maintaining positive relationships in the communities where we operate" as a factor in its decision. The future ownership and use of the property remain undecided.
