Coweta County residents have filed an appeal in Superior Court to reverse a rezoning decision that would allow Atlas Development to build a Project Sail data center. Residents cite zoning abuses, constitutional violations, and concerns about noise, traffic, property values, and environmental impact. The appeal seeks to prevent the data center's construction.

On May 5, a group of residents in Coweta County, Georgia, filed an appeal in the Coweta County Superior Court, seeking to overturn a recent rezoning approval for the "Project Sail" data center. The appeal challenges the Coweta County Board of Commissioners' decision from April to rezone 829 acres from rural conservation to industrial use, alleging the county abused its zoning powers and violated the Georgia Constitution by disregarding its own procedural rules and state legislature guidelines. Prior to the approval, residents consistently voiced strong opposition over 15 months, citing concerns about noise, traffic, property values, and environmental impacts in the Wagers Mill Road area. The plaintiffs in the appeal aim to prevent Atlas Development from constructing a hyperscale data center on the property, arguing they will suffer "permanent, irreparable injury" if the zoning decision stands. Following the commissioners' vote, the Citizens for Rural Coweta Political Action Committee announced plans to fund candidates to run against those commissioners who supported the rezoning.
