Residents raise concerns over noise from Google data center construction in Pumpkin Center
Residents near Google’s more than 3,000-acre data center site in Pumpkin Center say construction noise continues around the clock and is disrupting sleep and family life. Columbia County rules generally allow construction from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., but developers can request exceptions; the county had not confirmed whether Google received one.
Residents near Google’s data center construction site in Pumpkin Center, outside Harlem in Columbia County, say around-the-clock work is producing disruptive noise and bright lights. Gregory Guido, who moved to the area for a quieter environment, said the construction has made it difficult for families to sleep, work and enjoy their homes.
WRDW reporter Ethan Hunter said the project covers more than 3,000 acres and construction was continuing at night. A Columbia County spokesperson said county rules permit construction between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., while allowing developers to seek exemptions through the Inspection and Permit Department. County officials had not determined whether the project had such an exception and said they would provide additional information.
