AES Indiana has unveiled details of its plan to power Google's proposed 390-megawatt data center near Monrovia, Indiana, as well as three additional energy projects across the state. Under the agreement, Google is responsible for covering the entire cost of powering the data center and the associated energy initiatives, an investment estimated at over $1.7 billion. This includes the development of 350 megawatts of solar, 200 megawatts of wind, and 150 megawatts of battery storage projects. AES Indiana President and CEO, Kristina Lund, emphasized the company's commitment to supporting Indiana's economic growth while maintaining affordable, reliable, and sustainable power. The utility stated that the projects are designed to ensure Google's energy demands do not impact other customers' rates. The plan is subject to approval by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) and aligns with the state's clean energy goals.
