Rapid City to hold open house on proposed data center rules
Rapid City will hold an Oct. 14 open house to gather public input on proposed data center regulations covering setbacks, utility use, noise and vibration. The Planning Commission postponed further discussion until Nov. 5 to allow revisions and additional feedback.
Rapid City's Community Development Department will host an Oct. 14 open house at City Hall to explain proposed data center regulations and solicit residents' input. The rules would expand an ordinance adopted in December 2024 that defined data centers and permitted them in light and heavy industrial districts.
The proposed standards would address setbacks from residential areas, power, water and sewer use, noise, and vibration. The Planning Commission reviewed the proposal Sept. 10 but postponed additional discussion until Nov. 5 so city staff could revise the measure and gather more public feedback.
