Niles Township board approves data center moratorium, marijuana zoning amendment
The Niles Township Board of Trustees approved a one-year moratorium on data center projects to allow time for updates to the township’s zoning ordinance and master plan. Trustees also amended zoning rules for marijuana establishments, contingent on voter approval of a ballot proposal.
The Niles Township Board of Trustees in Michigan approved a one-year pause on data center development. Officials said the moratorium will provide time to update the township’s zoning ordinance and master plan.
The board also approved a zoning amendment that would allow marijuana retailers as a special land use if voters approve a related ballot proposal. The proposal would permit up to four adult-use retail establishments in designated business districts, subject to distance requirements from schools, parks and churches.
