The Marlboro Township Board of Trustees has enacted a one-year moratorium on data center development. This decision allows the township time to establish local regulations for data centers, similar to actions taken by surrounding communities. The moratorium was approved during recent board meetings.
The Marlboro Township Board of Trustees recently enacted a one-year moratorium on data center development, following board meetings held on May 23 and June 8. This decision was made to allow the township sufficient time to establish local regulations governing data centers, an approach consistent with actions taken by surrounding townships.
In other township business, the trustees approved placing a 2-mill renewal road levy on the upcoming November 3 ballot. They also authorized Road Superintendent Andrew "A.J." Battershell to proceed with ordering a new Freightliner cab and chassis, estimated at $240,000, to replace an older model before engine changes planned for 2027. Additionally, the trustees approved two culvert replacement projects on Breck Street and St. Peters Church Road, with estimated costs of $7,600 and $9,500 respectively.
The board also heard updates from Fiscal Officer Tracy Ferrett on the 2024-25 audit, discussed issues with upgraded camera software, and received reports on the road salt contract and required Ohio 811 excavator training. Assistant Fire Chief Hal Lehman and Police Chief Ron Devies provided departmental activity reports for May, while Chance Piotrowski of the Stark County Health Department gave an annual update on county health services, addressing resident concerns about mosquito spraying.
