Lancaster City Council Schedules Vote on Data Center Zoning Ordinance
Lancaster City Council has scheduled a special meeting for June 24 to hold a second reading and potential vote on a data center zoning ordinance. This follows a council meeting where they approved a state infrastructure loan for wastewater treatment improvements. The ordinance aims to update zoning regulations specifically for data center uses.
Lancaster City Council is set to hold a special meeting on June 24 at 6 p.m. in the Polite council chambers to address a zoning update for data center uses. Council President Ahmed Ahmed announced that the meeting will include the second reading of the data center zoning ordinance, which could lead to a potential council vote. This development highlights the city's proactive approach to regulating the burgeoning data center industry.
Separately, at a recent June 9 meeting, the council approved the use of a Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority loan of up to $3.88 million for wastewater treatment improvements. John Hursh, council finance committee chair, noted the state awarded an $8.88 million loan, with the city's partners, including Lancaster Area, Suburban Lancaster, and East Lampeter sewer authorities, splitting the remaining $5 million. The projects include upgrades to the advanced wastewater treatment plant's South Trail Screen House and the chlorination building. Because bids came in lower than projected, city chief of staff Amanda Bakay indicated the borrowed amount could decrease to $3 million.
