Weathersfield Township officials have publicly addressed the proposed data center project by Bit Deer, which spans land within both the township and the city of Niles. In a statement, township trustees clarified that existing zoning laws in Weathersfield prohibit the construction of a data center on their land. They affirmed their commitment to pursuing all available measures to prevent any negative impact on their community.

Simultaneously, the mayor of Niles has announced that no further action will be taken regarding Bit Deer's request to annex three township parcels into the city. A Niles City Council member, Celledo, emphasized the apparent unity between Weathersfield and Niles in opposing the project, suggesting that Bit Deer faces a significant challenge. He also noted the possibility of future litigation.

Bit Deer reportedly has not submitted any formal proposals to Weathersfield Township, instead initiating a petition for annexation after discussions with Niles city leaders. The Niles City Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on May 20th to vote on a potential data center moratorium, with calls for another decision to be made during the same session, aligning with residents' sentiments.
