Archer County Commissioners deny tax abatement for proposed data center
Archer County Commissioners unanimously denied a proposed tax abatement for a data center project by Dynamo Ventures LLC after hearing concerns from residents. The decision was influenced by a desire to await potential state-level regulations before reducing local tax revenue. While the abatement was denied, the project itself can still proceed.
Archer County Commissioners in Texas unanimously rejected a proposed tax abatement for a data center project by Dynamo Ventures LLC during a packed Commissioners Court meeting on Monday. Over 30 residents attended to voice strong opposition to the tax incentive, arguing the company should pay taxes like other property owners.
Archer County Judge Randy Jackson stated that commissioners wish to await potential state-level regulations and incentives before considering any reduction in local tax revenue. Jackson, who has expressed personal opposition to the data center, emphasized the need to understand how stringent future state restrictions might be on construction and operation.
Resident Megan Atchison, an opponent of the proposal, commended the commissioners for listening to constituents and acting with integrity, noting the potential impact on hundreds of homes.
Despite the denial of the tax abatement, the vote does not prevent the Dynamo Ventures LLC project from moving forward. County officials advised residents to contact state lawmakers to advocate for additional regulations on data center development.
