The Boulder City Planning Commission has rescheduled a hearing for a controversial 88.5-acre data center project from April 15 to May 20. The postponement was requested by the developer, Houston-based Townsite Solar 2, which plans to host another public open house to address community concerns.
During a previous public input session, many residents voiced their skepticism regarding the mitigation of the data center's potential negative impacts. City officials have noted that while the full land management process could span years, the data center could generate substantial revenue for Boulder City and utilize water-smart cooling, obtaining its power externally to avoid increasing costs for the city-owned utility. City Manager Ned Thomas also informed the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Townsite Solar 2 must decide by year-end whether to proceed with its original plans for a solar farm and battery storage on the site.
